Down on the coast, the pace changes noticeably. Restaurants take bookings without the usual summer wait. Beaches feel spacious. The Torrox Costa seafront promenade is a good stretch to walk without the August crowds making it feel like a commute.

The weather is still good enough for almost everything that draws people here in summer. What changes is everything around it. October feels more like the coast actually is, rather than what it becomes when everyone descends at once. It’s quieter and slower. For most people, that’s not a compromise.
